My name is Georgia Johnston, and I am so excited to be a guest writer for the Ezra Coffee blog! I am a senior attending Baylor University, and have recently fallen in love with Ezra Coffee Co’s Toasted Southern Pecan blend.Being a student is hectic and busy, so setting aside time each morning to ground myself is crucial in starting my day.
Below are five tried and true ways for you to start each day on a positive note, whether in college or beyond:
1. Write a to-do list.
Make it realistic. I typically put five to ten things on my daily to-do list and categorize each task as either essential or non-essential to keep myself from getting overwhelmed.
2. Make your bed.
As US Navy Admiral, William H. McRaven, stated in his famous commencement speech at the University of Texas, “If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day.”
3. Center yourself.
Something as simple as a five-minute walk allows me time to get some sun and enjoy the outdoors before hunkering down on my computer for the day. If you can’t get outside, I have also seen that taking one minute for deep breathing or meditation is a great way to center yourself and calm your mind.
4. Find time to practice gratitude.
One great way to slow down is by journaling before you start your day. This is how I love to not only track my goals, but practice mindfulness and gratitude, too. What better time of the year to start?
5. Make sure you’re properly fueled.
