Black History Month & Five Years of Ezra Coffee

Black History Month & Five Years of Ezra Coffee

A Note From the Founder

February always makes me pause.

Black History Month has never felt like a campaign to me. It’s a moment to reflect on where we’ve come from, what’s been carried forward, and what still needs protecting. This year, February also marks something personal. Ezra Coffee turns five.

That’s hard for me to even say out loud.

Ezra Started With Stories

Ezra didn’t start with a product.
It started with stories.

I knew from the beginning that if I was going to build a coffee brand, it had to mean something. Not just taste good. Not just look good. But hold weight.

Every blend we create has a story behind it. Some are rooted in history. Some are rooted in place. Some are rooted in legacy. All of them are intentional.

When you pick up a bag of Ezra, I want you to feel connected to something real, something remembered, something worth passing on.

Why I Built This

Ezra started with purpose, but it also started with something really simple. My sister.

She’s lactose intolerant and has allergies to nuts and soy. So for her, coffee has never been this easy, carefree thing. A lot of what people dress coffee up with isn’t even an option for her.

And I realized something. Coffee doesn’t need all of that to be good.

I wanted to create blends that could be enjoyed without milk, without creamers, and without all the add-ons. Coffee that could stand on its own. Something naturally smooth, naturally flavorful, and still accessible.

That became part of the heart of Ezra.

Because I wasn’t just building a coffee brand. I was building something that could meet people where they are, whether they’re new to coffee, sensitive to ingredients, or just tired of needing a bunch of extras for it to taste good.

And honestly, I think that’s what made the storytelling piece even more powerful. The coffee and the stories had to match. Intentional, layered, and strong enough to stand on their own.

More Than Coffee

I didn’t want Ezra to just be a brand. I wanted it to be a vehicle for change. That’s why a portion of every purchase supports the Ezra Scholars Program, helping students cover the financial gaps that too often stand between them and finishing school.

This part of the business matters deeply to me.
It’s not symbolic. It’s tangible.

When I say “Your Coffee, Their Future,” I mean exactly that.

Five Years In

Five years of Ezra means five years of learning, stretching, doubting, trusting, and showing up anyway.

There were moments when this felt heavy. Moments when I wondered if it was working. Moments when I had to remind myself why I started in the first place.

But there were also moments of pride. Of growth. Of community. Of watching something small turn into something real.

Every order placed.
Every story read.
Every cup brewed.

I don’t take any of it lightly.

Black History Isn’t Just February

Black history isn’t something we visit once a year. It’s lived. It’s layered. It’s still being written.

At Ezra, telling these stories honestly and thoughtfully is part of how we honor that truth. Not just this month, but always.

Thank You

If you’ve supported Ezra over the last five years by buying a bag, sharing a story, recommending us to a friend, or simply believing in what we’re building, thank you.

You’re part of this.

Here’s to five years of Ezra Coffee.
Here’s to the stories that started it all.
And here’s to what we’re still building together.
